Question:
I have a question regarding the Shariah ruling on the practice of holding the Qur’an over the bride’s head during the Ruksati ceremony. Is this considered a good practice, or should it be avoided in order to maintain the respect and honor of the Qur’an? Given that during Ruksati, the Qur’an is held continuously above the bride’s head amidst a large crowd, there is a concern that the respect due to the Qur’an may be compromised kindly guide me in order to avoid any sin or wrong act
Answer
Holding Quran during Rukhsati is a good practice and is a means of barakat. However, the one holiding Quran should either be in state of Wudhu or must be holding Quran with a separate cover or a piece of clean cloth. Adittionally there must not be any non Sharaee activities like fireworks and music while holding Quran, as that will amount to disrespect to the Quran e kareem. Also the bride must be in state of Sharaee hijaab, unlike the most of the modern day brides who have an appearance complete agains the commandments of the Quran. If her own life is not according to the Quran and the teachings of the Quran have not be upheld throughout the wedding, then simply holding Quran will become a mere ritual rather than a source of Barakah.
