Listening to Music
Question
is it ok if i listen to a song but dont support the artist?
Answer:
Allah, the most exalted, mentioned in the Quran:
Translation:
And some people buy words of play, in order to mislead from Allah’s path, without knowledge; and to make it an article of mockery; for them is a disgraceful punishment.
Abi Sehbaa Al Bikri says he heard Sayyiduan Abdulllah Ibn Masood ( رضی اللہ عنہ) when he was questioned about this verse. He said that the words of play are music, by the one who there is no worthy of worship except him. He said this three time.
This and many other similar narrations indicate that many great Sahaba e kiram used to consider the music as lahw or words of play. Hence, the verse above highlights that those who indulge in words of play will get severe torment in the hereafter.
The above Hadeeth is from Hazrat e Jabir, رضی اللہ عنہ, who heard the Prophet ﷺ say that the music produces hypocrisy in the heart just like the water makes the crops grow.
All of the above establishes that the music is not allowed in the Sharia. Hence your listening to the music can not be justified in any way. Muslims must stay away from the instruments of the devil completely in order for them to protect their Imaan.
