IQ15-Father’s curse for children

by Mufti Syed Siraj Ul Arifeen Shah · Published Tue 3 Muharram 1446AH 9-7-2024AD · Updated Tue 9 Safar 1446AH 13-8-2024AD

Assalam O Alaikum. I want to ask if father’s bad dua ( curse) really work if he is on the wrong side. He was never on the right track, he was always abusive and toxic in the whole family’s life. Everyone is disturbed because of his extreme abusive nature.

Answer

When parents or either of them is wrong, i.e. they are acting against the Sharia, the Sharia allows us to disobey them. Generally we must avoid the curse of the parents as it is answered straight away by Almighty Allah. Hadeeth e Mubaraka mentions:

“Three duas are answered without any doubt. Dua of an opressed, Dua of a Musafir and Dua of a father for his children.”

However, Almighty Allah is extremely merciful and will not accept duas done against someone without a reason.Only when someone is wrong, dua against him of any creation will be accepted.

In the case of an abusive father, one must continue to respect him and never hurt his feelings as to become the target of his curse. Additionally, the children and family should try and help him through mediation to get out of this situation. In addition, keep making dua for him to get back on the track.

It is recommended that you make dua of maghifrah and do istighfar for you father and this will likely improve his condition while protecting you from the curse.
